 Risk management is most effective when it becomes part of an organization's culture—not just a checklist completed once a year. That philosophy is the foundation of GSRMA's Risk Management Accreditation Program (RMAP).

RMAP is a voluntary Best Practices Program designed to help Members strengthen their operations, reduce exposures, and build long-term resilience. Rather than focusing solely on compliance, the program promotes continuous improvement and recognizes agencies that take a proactive approach to reducing risk.

More Than an Accreditation

Every district, regardless of size or resources, faces unique risks. RMAP provides a structured framework that helps Members evaluate policies, procedures, training, and operational practices across key areas of risk management. Through practical improvements, the program helps Members:

• Improve employee and public safety.
• Strengthen organizational policies and procedures.
• Promote accountability and consistency.
• Demonstrate a commitment to sound governance and operational excellence.

By implementing best practices before incidents occur, Members can reduce risk while creating safer workplaces and stronger organizations.

A Partnership Throughout the Year

RMAP is not intended to be completed in isolation. GSRMA's Risk Control team partners with Members throughout the accreditation cycle by providing guidance, answering questions, and sharing resources.

To support Members, GSRMA hosts monthly Open Forum sessions before each submission deadline. These meetings offer opportunities to discuss program requirements, share best practices, receive assistance directly from Risk Control staff, review trends, and identify meaningful improvements throughout the year. Together, GSRMA and its Members are creating safer workplaces and more resilient organizations.

Recognizing Commitment to Excellence

Members who successfully complete the program may earn an award based on their level of accreditation. Awards can total up to 10% of a Member's annual contribution, subject to program maximums and eligibility requirements. More importantly, participation demonstrates an organization's commitment to continuous improvement and proactive risk management, benefiting employees, governing boards, and the communities they serve.

Effective risk management is never static. Laws evolve, workplaces change, and new challenges emerge every year. RMAP provides a roadmap for Members to continually evaluate and strengthen their organizations with support from experienced risk management professionals.

Whether participating for the first time or pursuing another year of Accreditation, each improvement made through RMAP contributes to a safer, stronger, and more resilient organization.
